Calgary's mayor (Naheed Menshi) isn't that bad - sounds like he's taking steps to build arts and culture in the city.

In general, Alberta is the hotbed of right-wing wingnuttiness in Canada. There are a lot of very wingnutty religious people there, and it has been run by the Conservative Party for the past 40 years. The Reform Party - which spawned the current (federal) Conservative Party - originated in Alberta, and the Douche Minister, Stephen Harper, is from there too.

(Although I think that k.d. lang - from Consort, AB - upset more people there when she said that she was a vegetarian than when she said that she was gay.)

well, some of the satellite came down over the pacific as well, so vancouver might have got a wee dusting - hopefully not of plutonium

i don't recall knowing that the reform party started in alberta - interesting - the religious nuts makes sense to me too

i just sensed a lot of white trash jerry springer type nutty people, and yet interesting ones too, seemed to be in calgary - and i knew that some weird sociology must be going on - what a shock that right-wing politics is yet again to blame

so, cool people like k.d.lang would of course rise out of this crazy paradoxical place - i'm thinking that there are a lot of cattle there, and this explains the shock of the cowboy people about her veggyism

they are priming the money pump up there, for the oil-shale party and the north-south super highway! we get lovely sounding canadian commercials about it in chicago.

well, also, i am not surprised about calgary's ~ progressive mayor - i knew a lot of improvements were going on - (and it's a big city with money) - but it is nice to hear

i've imagined moving there, or edmonton, but now not so much.

thx :)
