Odd - not so keen on getting into it.
The theme is this: Trust your instincts.
My dog was barking at neighbors when she was let out at 5:pm, and then she barked at our garage area at 8:pm. I should have acknowledged the uniqueness of her bark, and the concern in her demeaner. But I never went out to check the garage. (By the way, the garage belongs to my non-profit. We have our own garage, which is great shape). So, later last night I smelt something like burning garbage. I checked around but saw nothing. But I never looked behind the garage. Maybe a half an hour later I heard what sound like firecrackers, and there it was - cinders rising into the air. So I called the police, and there was some mix up off location, due to an earlier 911 caller, (who showed up this morning, by the way), and my own fuzzy mind.
Nothing much destroyed, just a little wood from a mess of a park shelter I removed from Sinnissippi and put in there, (sparing you taxpayers the expense).
So, I talk to the firemen, and then the arson investigator. A pile of leaves had been moved up to a vulnerable spot by the garage, and set afire. Rather than use a door, the firemen put an 8' by 4' doorlike rectangle in the garage, which is fine, but I've got to close it up soon.
I told the investigator, and also the police, that maybe 5 nights ago someone had broken through a plywood "fence" I had constructed a few years ago to deter tresspassers. I heard it being done, but never checked it out, as I thought it may have been just a nother weird noise the GOOD neighbors were making. This "fence" was right next to the garage, and obviously done by whomever set the fire last night. And it had to have been done not by a child, but by a man - probably a big one.
The investigator asked who might have set the fire, and I said I had no strong leads. He asked if I had had any run-in w/ any neighbors, and I told him about the guy with his pitbulls who wanted to kill me two years ago. (I posted that story in my LJ).
Well - my feeling was that Thanksgiving was over, and now any potential trouble in the neighborhood would dissolve. However, the moon was still fairly full, and there was a low pressure front moving in - a time when I know from experience to keep my guard up - which I didn't do this time.
And then there was the recent story about black farmers not receiving just compensation from the US Gov't - I actually thought up a solution to this problem. But, the story was not good for the digestion of any black racists in the area, (sorry, Cornell West), and I guess one of them might have had a bad Thanksgiving. The guy who probably did it has always resented my purchase of those lots, and...
Then my neighbor's garage burns down, and his house catches fire. He's another white dude, and also has CFS. His whole future was in that garage.
So - this narrows the possibilities down considerably. For the pitbull guy also resented this white neighbor. And the pitbull guy is a racist jerk, who has done other underhanded vandalism, and has a criminal record. So why he couldn't get together with me and the other white dude, who are both basically Anarchists, and go burn down the garages of RICH white people in the SUBURBS, I don't know. But people of poverty have habits of eating themselves alive.
None of us are rich.
And my neighbor said he KNEW something was going to happen last night. Too late.
I tried to start a park, and no one helped, but the jealous passive agressive spite around here sure took and interest, and the racist jerk is king of that.
And I never had my guard up because I'm tired of living that way.
