Yes, yes, yes! I like to listen to the In My Room. Pet Sounds is one of the greatest albums of all time.

I don't know why that URL isn't showing up as a link though...

Woops!

I am a big fan. A guy with this band the Greening was supposed to get me a burn from his copy of the original Smile from Capital. I have about 12 discs worth of stuff dedicated to it, and Brian Wilsons version, but I like the Beach Boy vox.

And yeah, Pet Sounds is cool. For that, I have Petsoundsessions.

You really are a big fan. That's awesome. Good Vibrations isn't on that, right - it's on Smiley Smile...? I just have Pet Sounds and a collection of their hits. I know they'll always be around, so I never buy any more than that. I waste my money on lesser crap because it's new.

Smiley Smile is the result of Wilson's mental breakdown. Only Good Vibrations was spared, and part of Heroes and Villains. I got into all of this because... I was originally such a Beatles fan--like you.

And the rivaly between Beach Boys and Beatles fueled McCartney and Lennon to make better music. See if you can follow this track of influences (each album influenced the later ones).

Beatles Rubber Soul--Beach Boys Pet Sounds--Beatles Sgt. Pepper (Revolver came out in between, while Pet Sounds was just released)--Magical Mystery Tour, the Sequel to Sgt. Pepper, Sgt. Pepper, Revolver, Pet Sounds, and Rubber Soul were all Wilson's inspiration for Smile. He said it was going to be the album to outdo the all.

And he broke down. 37 years later, it came out. Different band, and rougher vox. Gets 5 stars, because it is great, but it leaves us all to wonder WHAT IF it was released back then? I started acquiring CDs on it because of my interest in the Flaming Lips. People compared the Soft Bulletin to the lost Smile album in terms of sheer brilliance, and while I love the Soft Bulletin, Smile had better vox.

Course, the old Beach Boys are great too. In My Room, Help Me Rhonda, Fun, Fun, Fun. Say what you want, but the choruses are excellent. They inspired the Cars, and in turn, Ric Ocasek got Weezer to use those kinds of harmonies on the Blue album (which is why I STILL think it's the best). Flaming Lips Clouds Taste Metallic also has a cool sunshine feel. Waiting for their next album, which is supposed to be going back to it.
