Ok, I just want to chime in after the UK microrevolution. I could have said this earlier, but it would have been unconventional PC heresy. What I saw, building up to this vote, really made me disgusted with a lot of English, and bien-surely the ones on LJ. My god, what a bunch of Chicken-Little ninnies! How did many of the English get like this, wailing that the sky is falling, and soon Ireland and Scotland would be revolting?
What happened to that English 'stiff upper lip'? What a disgrace. And why would England need to be subject to a continental, mainly German, power that abused the indebted Greece and Spain, and which deems that Anti-Christians should be coddled in Christian countries? If Christian countries do not want to put up with massive immigrations of Moslems, which includes a minority of pro-terrorists, and a critical potential of Islamicism, then why should they put up with it? If democracies choose to keep out anti-democratic elements, then all the more power to them.
We all have cultural differences, and economic needs, and so it is perfectly fine to allow nationalism to preserve them. England is not thinking of gassing Jews or conquering the world. Not all nationalism is bad. Actually, it was Labour that tended to be the anti-Semitic party. Once upon a time, England rose into power by playing one great nation against another - NOT by assimilating itself into a lock-step Europe. England distilled concepts of common liberty, invention, civility, etc., precisely because it was insular and independent.
As predicted, the BBC and Guardian, (both which I love), have rushed to do articles thus: 'How Can Labour Recover?', or, 'How Labour Was Mistreated or Misrepresented.' It is the same denial practiced by the Dems in the USA, following the Trump victory, which COULD have been a Sanders victory. NPR played a few country songs and did a few reports on rural Midwestern America, then it went back to talking over conservative guests, and goading anti-Trump bitch fests. Both Labour and the Dems are blinded by their own self-righteousness. This is largely why they are being defeated.
Do you really think that the majority of the American public has any tolerance of this endless parade of lying victims of abuse, Kavenaugh trials, Russiagate investigations, Ukraingate, etc.? People are fucking sick of this bullshit. And the left never recognises it until they get defeated. I'm not saying the GOP is not also fucked up, historically. But, compared to the Dems, these days, they look strong. Just like the conservatives in the UK.
I am not yet geared to do a post about what these politics mean for the Western world, in the bigger picture. But, I will say that China plays a big part.
So, now we get to Scotland and N. Ireland. If they want to split off, then all the best to them. I have better ideas of how they can do it - as a Celtic Union. But. let them understand, that nationalism suckering from a European union is not nationalism at all. Rather, it is an alignment from from one empire to another. These countries should grow up and come into their own as independent nations, apart from Europe. It is sad that Europe, and so Germany and China, should inspire their exit from Britain. THAT's where many of the fears are inspired. The European Union is a system that works to the benefit of the German banks, and so country. It was first envisioned by NAZI's. Why we keep the idea that bigger is always better - it is a subjective, emotional bias. It is also a reaction to increasing competition, and so is to be expected.
My opinion is that Scotland, all of Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, and perhaps Brittany and Celtic Spain, should join up as a union within the British Commonwealth. Even though England would be separate, it would be compensated by the Celtic Union's membership in the Commonwealth. But, no. Thoughts like these never get entered into reality. Everyone is too full of fear and hate to think 5 seconds ahead.
And these separate countries, accustomed to thinking of themselves as dependent on empire, would never think of any kind of national identity, surely not one 'based on race'. OK, then base it on all the great qualities of the Celts, from imagination to strength, to music, to art, to individuality and freedom. Whatever. This post introduces the call for a Celtic Union.
Let us recall that most of England's Enlightenment, industrial revolution, literature, poetry, rock music, etc., came from Celts. England needs to stop thinking of itself as neo-Roman or Anglo. IT needs to subsume itself into a new Celtic identity. I actually didn't score right in this paragraph. TedTalks distracted me into forgetting what I meant to say, Woops. I hate that.
