I love the Smiths. I have always loved The Smiths. I think that The Smiths were, and remain, a far superior writing team than The Beatles or The Stones. The Smiths are special--sacred, even--to so many people. Those really were "the songs that saved your life," and not a Smiths' fan among us would pretend to be so proud that they didn't. They gave us a wealth of music in the span of merely five years, and there wasn't a dud among them. They were bleak, poignant, personal. To many of us, they were everything.

That being said, I hate Morrissey.

In a pathetic attempt to grasp at any sort of semblance of relevance, Morrissey has done it again. His attempts to remain relevant, such as blaming Beyoncé for the extinction of rhinos or blaming the royal family for the death of a nurse, are just pathetic. But this time, it's beyond pathetic. I am also low-key convinced he doesn't actually believe 99% of what he spouts off, and it really is just a sorry way to get attention.

Like, I am tired of it, fam. He's ruining the legacy of The Smiths. Shut up, Morrissey. You've been writing the same cliché, recycled, derivative shit for the last 30 years. We're tired of spending money and fighting for concert tickets, in the very likely chance you might cancel, just so we can hear maybe 2 or 3 Smiths' song, at best.

I am also tired of people sending me every stupid thing he does, as if it's somehow vindication to them of some kind, like I wasn't already aware of what a tool he was. That's great that you have no emotional attachment to anything that he's done, and that you're mentally and morally superior, and can lord it over people who are struggling with it. The dude is a jackass. I've never defended any stupid thing he's done or said, because I don't cape for people who do or say stupid things, though especially celebrities who don't know or care that I exist.

And you know, you can't really separate the artist from their art, because they've made it. If you're still supporting the person's art, it means that you're still putting money into that person's pocket. I can't do it.

I'm tired of your shit, Morrissey. You're ruining one of my favourite things in the entire world with your big, stupid mouth, spouting off shit you don't even believe.

Long live The Smiths. Long live one of the greatest bands of all-time. Long live the meaningful lyrics, gorgeous arrangements and glorious harmonies. Long live the legacy of giving all the lonely little weirdos something to believe in.

Shut up, Morrissey. Go home, stay home, and shut up. And keep your high school level writing as a 58 year old man to yourself. Grow up, and shut up.

Robert the Bruce

The man commonly known as Robert the Bruce, Robert I (11 July 1274 – 7 June 1329), was King of Scots from March 25, 1306, until his death in 1329. As well as being one of the most famous warriors, he was also one of Scotland's greatest kings and led the country during the Wars of Scottish Independence against England, for which he's acclaimed today as a national hero.
