I miss growing kale and chard. I always end up with a mealy aphid problem, so I don't grow them now. At least I have turnips and beets to make up for it. They both have good greens too.

Ahhhh... Here is this comment... OK...

So, I looked up chardness on internets and it looks like you shouldn't have a problem with those specific aphids when it comes to chard because they only love the cruciferous veggie types lile kale and broccoli. So, maybe this helps, but possibly you might be able to grow chard again.

Although - the amount of MATTER one gets back from chard, considering all the water and space that goes into it, idk.

That whole aphid thing sucks. here are some links I followed...

I do know chard is pretty yummy and nutritious, but so would shoes be if you boiled them down to a thimble, lol.

Ick, just looking at those aphids makes me shutter. They took over my mustard earlier this summer.

Maybe I'm forgetting what plants they took over the year I decided to quit growing chard. I remember the kale was devastated. I had some rainbow chard in the garden as well. I mostly used it fresh in salads, I might try the boiling technique if I get my hands on some. I have a new batch of turnips coming up, so for now I do have something green to boil.

Maybe you have had dif kinds of aphids. But I hope you get to regrow turnips and mustard - I don't even know where they classify. I hope your latest garden is working out pretty well.

I don't know if I have commented already, but the cures I know for aphids are mainly soap solutions, or maybe diatomaceous earth, or maybe ladybugs hopefully not from China.

Beet stalks are really awesome, and not recognised enough, I think.

They still have slightly too much sugar for me. I just recently fermented some beet slices - including some beet stalks. Beets are so nutritious!

Like the wolf that he is, my dog avoids anything ground-wise. He will eat spinach or broccoli, though.

...

(Just for the record, I am thinking that mustard greens trigger CFS probs).

BTW - One thing I hate the most is the invasive species: GARLIC MUSTARD. But, I understand that it can be used as a food or relish. Probably not, but have you ever considered this? Hopefully not, Because every shoot sens out 10000 seeds. I hate China!
