There's also a Professor Michael Woodworth at UBC Okanagan who specializes in psychopathy. I heard him speak a few years ago.

Here's another article from Robert Hare, excerpted from his book Without Conscience. I strongly recommend it.

By luck, I fund our related chain.

This is another great article. But it emphasises the charm. N-Girl is not charming, just very lying and manipulative - sort of like charming. I find this article better describes N-Guy, who has shown some "charm" the few times I have cornered him, otherwise he struts around pretending to be bad-ass.

One thing about this article, and the whole issue, is that some people may be psychos and not fully fit the profile, while others may fit the profile and yet not be psychos - or at least to some degree. I would love to analyze this bit by bit and do a post on it - although I am tres swamped.

Robert Hare talks about "subcriminal" psychopaths - they're people who have the psychopath's traits, and do horrible - but not necessarily illegal - things to other people, and they don't get into trouble with the law. I would think that bullies fall into that category - they suck up to The People That Count and treat other people like dirt. I once had a boss like that - she arbitrarily decided to change my position within the office, which not only involved loss of reputation, but also a considerable loss of income for me, and then she said that it was all my fault. I started crying while I was in her office having this discussion, and she just smiled. Later, when I saw pictures of Paul Bernardo (rapist & serial killer from St. Catharines, ON) on trial, it occurred to me that their smiles were identical.

Perhaps N-Girl has psychopathic tendencies coupled with social ineptitude. I've seen a person with traits like that at work, too. TOSS ("The Original Stupid Sarah," because I knew her before Sarah Palin came around) was also lying and manipulative. The only thing she was actually good at was sucking up to management, and even then it was obvious. But she was also totally creepy - there was just something "off" about her.

I think that there's a spectrum of psychopathy - at one extreme, you have guys like Clifford Robert Olson (rapist and serial killer from British Columbia) and Paul Bernardo; at the other extreme, you have people who do anti-social things like lie and cheat and sponge off other people, but who don't do anything illegal (although their actions cause anguish to their targets).

I am so sorry that you had to take that hit in your job - especially needlessly, and in humiliation from a jerkwad! That is freaky about the smiles, but I totally believe it. They are attracted to people they see in pain or in chaos, apparently because they have such a hard time perceiving the effects they have on people, or the consequences of their own actions. When I was super-yelling-down N-Girl, she smiled at me and prettied her hair. Thus, they tend to ENCOURAGE dysfunction.

Of course, there would be no dividing line between "subcriminal" and "criminal", other than prison histories. If N-Girl were president, she would be another HItler. And N-Guy is expert at getting away "with murrder", but he will be caught one day, probably doing something terrible.

Alex Jnnns has often said that (NWO) psycho's NEED to leave their calling card, or return to the scene of the crime, or "rub it in" - i.e., they want to get credit for their crimes. I heard an interview on Coast-to-Coast about a long-time serial kller, who was relatively recently caught. He posed as a "family man" and so no one suspected him - even when he would show up at the scene of the crime, while police investigated. That is how he got caught. He took his daughter to a crime scene, and shouted, "OMG There are dead bodies over here! Ewwww!!!" Well, several years later, is daughter was watching the news, concerning that mrrder, and she put two and two together, and reported her father.

This guy also wrote devious poems, mocking the pollice, presumably thinking himself some sort of Riddler character. But, the thing is, psycho's just can't help getting their hands dirty. I have come to the conclusion that this assessment is correct.

I can't recall the name of this klller, but it is something like "Martin" or "Wilson."

Well, the way I categorise psycho's is by using the term, "sociopath," which may be similar to, "subcriminal." Actually, "sociopath" is no longer a term supported by the D.S.M., last I heard. But I do use it is my own way anyway.

The possibility that Nether Guy injured that puppy REALLY concerns me - abusing animals is often "practice" for abusing and harming people. Have you heard that puppy downstairs lately?

You're right about psychopaths wanting to get credit for their crimes. Clifford Olson (BC serial killer; Robert Hare uses him as a prime example of psychopathy) used his parole application appearances as an opportunity to taunt his victims' families.

Michael Holoday was a Canadian stockbroker who stole $20 million dollars from his clients (which included members of his own family and his in-laws). After he was caught, one of his in-laws wrote a book about him. When he heard about the book, he told the writer that he hoped that the book would be made into a movie, and that his part would be played by Tom Cruise.

That's right about animal abuse. These guys conspire together in their push-me/ pull-you dysfunction, so that they keep increasing the aggressions bit-by-bit. Often, though, he does explode at some point. And I'm pretty sure he has physically abused her.

I am glad to have the confirmation of the idea that psychos leave their calling card. I haven't accessed the link yet, though.

There was an interesting bit in this week's This American Life. I think you would like listening to it. It is about the pro-Wallace racist, A.Carter, who years later "changed his life" and wrote the Highschool Classic, "The Education of Little Tree." It is fascinating, and not unrelated to the topic of your comment.

Thanks for the This American Life suggestion - I will have to listen to it next week because we get the episodes a week later in Canada.

The link was to the amazon.ca entry for the book on the guy who stole $20mm from his clients. I mentioned him because his concern (when talking to the author) was more on who would play him in a movie adaptation of the book.

Robert Hare has written a book, "Snakes in Suits," about psychopaths in the business world. He said in a previous book ("Without Conscience") that, if he couldn't study psychopaths in prison, he'd study them at the Vancouver Stock Exchange. Here's the Amazon.com link:

ETA: I have one other question for you - is it possible that the Nethers pay a higher rent because both Nether Guy and the second dog live in the suite? That could explain why they're still living in your building.
