Vote to Overturn Citizens United on April 5 in Wisconsin!

[March 28, 2016] - Besides the one for President and for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, there will be another important vote to cast on April 5 in 11 Wisconsin towns or cities. And that’s to vote to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court’s horrendous decision in the Citizens United case back in 2010 and to proclaim, once and for all, that corporations aren’t persons and money isn’t speech.

Such a resolution is on the ballot in Belmont, Beloit, Brodhead, Clarno, Darlington, Janesville, Lancaster, Monroe, New London, Platteville, and York.

The Citizens United case said that corporations, unions, and other associations can spend unlimited amounts of money to elect candidates of their choice. And it contained two of the most naïve statements ever written in a Supreme Court decision:

“Independent expenditures, including those made by corporations, do not give rise to corruption or the appearance of corruption,” and, “The appearance of influence or access, furthermore, will not cause the electorate to lose faith in our democracy.”

In the last five years in Wisconsin, resolutions to amend the Constitution to overturn Citizens United have passed by overwhelmingly margins in 61 villages, towns, cities, and a few counties in Wisconsin. That makes Wisconsin one of the leaders in the nationwide movement to get money out of politics.

The mainstream media is ignoring this movement. But it’s growing fast.

MOVE TO AMEND in your home town! - "We the People, Not We the Corporations"

And thanks to Bernie Sanders for infusing energy into campaigns against corpocrat personhood; money-speak; the $15 minimum wage; for extinguishing the TPP; for taxing the so-called "upper" 1%, and for giving the majority of Americans a fair shake at obtaining a decent and free life in these maddening times. I would feel remiss without also thanking the phenomenal Donald Trump for, somewhere behind his narcissistic tantrums, cobbling together an alternate rebuke of the Establishment*, which rejects the TPP, and some other dreams shared in common with Bernie, although one could hardly guess it from the media coverage.
