TEPCO says rat caused recent NUKE problem - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-21867705 - I think it was in the 1980's when the NorthEast and Atlantic USA electrical grid got blacked out for a day or so. there were riots in NYC. it was all blamed on a squirrel. in fact, it was caused by a relatively large solar CME hitting the planet and screwing with the geomagnetic, etc., spheres. the most powerful solar flare to disrupt modern life was in the late 1800's, I believe. can't recall, as brain has been down all day. but, this storm caused telegraph lines to catch on fire, etc. well, very recently, scientists have found evidence of an even stronger solar hit, back around 600 AD or so. This one was something like 20-70 times worse than the one in the 1800's! if a strong flare directly hit earth, we would not only experience electric grid failures, (as in the NE, or in South Africa), but giant grid transformers would blow out, since they are not protected. this would extend the black-out indefinitely, and many nukes would begin failing after only a few days. but it's easier to blame things on little rodents, isn't it? and, we all know, TEPCO NEVER LIES!
